Summer is finally here, and with it, warm temperate days and beautiful bright sunshine. With such lovely weather and the kids out of school, perhaps you’re wondering what you can do to focus and stay productive. How can you find the motivation to do the things that must be done? One of the best ways I’ve found is to do what you have to do in order to do what you want to do. By all means, have fun this summer, but get some work done first. Here are three fun ways to motivate yourself during the dog days of summer.
Do small things
If you try to tackle big things when you’re distracted by the warm sun and a restless family that wants to get out of the house, you’re more likely to not finish them. Do small things. You’ll cross more off your list and be more productive in the long run.Do your work outside
If the day is glorious, go spend it outside! There’s plenty that can be done on the porch, the deck, or even in the grass. Get out of the house and take advantage of the clear day, the nice breeze, and the calming birdsong. There is no better inspiration than Mother Nature, and being outside can help to clear your thoughts.Reward yourself
If you’re stuck doing work in the morning, make sure to treat yourself in the afternoon. Get a pedicure, enjoy a bowl of ice cream, take a dip in the pool, or relax in the hammock. If you know there is a reward waiting for you at the end of your work, you’re more likely to get it done.
These are just three ways you might be able to motivate yourself during the height of summer. No matter what work needs to get done, break it into small chunks, inspire yourself by enjoying the day, and have a reward waiting for you at the end.
